Spring Cleaning Advice

Nothing says “Spring” like cherry blossoms and a dust mop. Spring cleaning is as much a home improvement as a new deck or floor. It is essential. Many get lost in the enormity of the task. Keep it simple and break it down into doable steps. Plan a spring-cleaning schedule to accomplish your goals for the next days or weeks. Include family members in tasks and make it a goal!

1. Inside out. Decide to begin with the indoor cleaning first. This is where we spend the majority of our time. An organized, sanitary space allows for peace and tranquility. Clear out items that no longer are of use. Assess an item to determine if it brings joy and is used often. Clear out closets, drawers, storage rooms, and cluttered spaces. Even if you accomplish cleaning one item a day, that is progress! Children can go through toys and make piles to give away. Teens can sort through clothes, books, and collections, wipe out cabinets, clean windows, and share in tasks. Work through each room, including the kitchen, bathrooms, and garage. Outside, pressure wash siding and decks and do simple landscaping. A little goes a long way for curb appeal.

2. Top to bottom. When cleaning indoors, think of cleaning from a high-to-low, top-to-bottom approach. Dust lighting and light fixtures, wipe crown molding, clean windows, wash walls, dust, and polish furniture, clean upholstered furniture, vacuum carpets, and area rugs, wash hard surface flooring, and wipe baseboards. Be sure to use the correct cleaning products to clean effectively without causing damage to surfaces. Encore by COREtec is a safe solution for a luxury vinyl plank available at NK Floors. The neutral pH removes dirt and grime and is compatible with hard surfaces, including hardwood, ceramic, laminate, and resilient floors.

3. Maintenance. After the time and work invested, maintain it! Following the timeless saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” will help keep your living space clean. Design a duties list for you, your partner, or the family. Share tasks and make it fun. If your profession keeps you busy, enlist help to keep the house tidy. Hire a cleaning service for a monthly deep clean or even a weekly or biweekly clean. It will be money well spent while buying time with those you care about the most.

Spring cleaning is refreshing! When consistently maintained, it is a game-changer.
