Heroes Spotlight: From the Navy to Nursing Meet Anais Marin

Anais Marin’s transition from a naval career to nursing was a natural progression for her professionally. The discipline instilled during military service laid a solid foundation for the challenges that awaited in the field of healthcare. The ability to remain calm under pressure, work efficiently in a team, and adapt quickly to changing situations are just a few of the valuable skillsAnais carried from the Navy into the world of nursing.

Anais was born and raised in Carson, California. A daughter of immigrants, her father is from Cali, Colombia, and her mother is from Santa Clara, Cuba. She served in the Navy as a Corpsman for 10 years before making the transition to as a nurse.

She married her best friend Ryder Mack who is also a Hospital Corpsman currently stationed on Marine Corps Base Quantico.

They have made Quantico their home with their two kids, one dog, and three cats.

What does it mean to serve?

Anais says,

“Serving to me means to give of yourself for someone or something else,

whether it’s time or in an action, serving is a selfless act for another person or entity for a greater good or just to be of assistance.”

Anais puts actions behind her words. Her family is very involved in the community and assists by gathering clothes or food for clothing or food drives. One of their favorite family volunteer activities is with the Blue Mile at the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon. They gather together and hold a flag with the name of a fallen comrade.

Community is such an important part of Anais’ life, especially living in a military community. All the neighbors understand the struggle of living away from family, or sometimes solo parenting when the active duty member has to go away on deployments or training.

Anais has plans to earn a Doctorate in Nurse Anesthesia Practice. Until then, she will be working as a Registered Nurse for the next few years.

In the bustling halls of the hospital, Anais’ story serves as a reminder that service to others takes many forms. Whether patrolling the seas or administering medications, the heart of a dedicated individual remains unchanged – committed to making a difference in the lives of those they serve.

Anais thank you for your service.

Liz Hensel - Content Coordinator

Liz has been living in the Stafford area for the last two years. However, her ties are rooted to Virginia, as Virginia was her first duty station while she was on active duty with the Marine Corps. Her husband is still on active duty, and they hope to make Stafford their forever home with their two daughters and two rescue dogs.

While serving in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps reserves has allowed Liz to see all parts of the country and the world, there is truly no place like home. Working on this magazine gives Liz the opportunity to meet her neighbors and the local businesses and more importantly, she gets to showcase them to others.

Liz is also the founder of a nonprofit called Leave No Paws Behind USA. She led the campaign to have legislative change to include pet transportation fees included in military moves. With her leadership, the bill was passed in the FY23 National Defense Appropriation Act.

Liz is excited to continue to write the stories of the FXBG Neighbors
