New Beginnings: The Castillo Family's Commitment to Community in Stafford

The Castillo family, led by Alvaro Castillo, has recently made Stafford their home, bringing with them a strong sense of community and a deep commitment to family.
Alvaro's journey to Stafford is a testament to his dedication to his children. After his ex-wife's new husband got a job in the area, the proposed change in joint custody prompted Alvaro to make a life-changing decision. He left his high-paying job in federal government contracting to maintain his 50/50 custody arrangement.
"I moved without hesitation," Alvaro shared, reflecting on his decision to prioritize being a present and fully involved parent. After renting for a year, he decided to plant roots in Stafford by purchasing a home, ensuring stability for his family.
Callen and Ollie, just a year apart in age, are inseparable. They attend Mountain View High School and AG Wright Middle School, respectively, and enjoy spending their weekends engaging in various activities with their father. From building intricate Lego sets to off-roading adventures and watching culturally significant movies, the trio finds joy in each other's company.
Alvaro's mother, Mia, will soon join the family, adding another layer of warmth and support to their household. Her upcoming move from Ecuador to Stafford is a significant transition, and the family is preparing to welcome her and introduce her to everything they love about the area.
The family's cat, Lyra, is also an essential part of their home, adding a touch of playfulness and comfort.
Stafford has quickly become a place of enjoyment and exploration for the Castillo family. Alvaro loves the area's natural beauty, particularly Government Island, where he and his children take long hikes.
"I love boating in the area," Alvaro explained, adding that Aquia Landing Park also offers fishing, swimming, and birdwatching.
Along with the birds, the Castillo family appreciates the local dining options. They often frequent spots like Juicy Bucket for its delicious seafood, Hibachi for its sizzling Japanese dishes, and Oni Sushi for its fresh and flavorful sushi.
"We also enjoy time at local attractions like Stafford Civil War Park and Crow's Nest Natural Area Preserve," Alvaro added. The Castillos certainly stay active, and activity and inclusion are the focus of Alvaro's business as well.
Pixie's Pole Gym is more than just a fitness center; it's a community hub. Alvaro, along with his business partner, Tabatha Ley, whom he met through their shared love of dance, aims to build a welcoming environment where people can explore alternative fitness programs.
"Neighbors and community play a vital role in enhancing our quality of life," Alvaro said, emphasizing the importance of fostering connections. "Being part of a strong community means having people who can offer help in times of need, share in celebrations, and contribute to a safe and nurturing environment."
Alvaro hopes to encourage more people to experience the supportive and inclusive community they have created through regular open houses and events at the gym and by reaching out to neighbors.
While they love their neighborhood and new life in Stafford, the Castillo family also enjoys vacations whenever possible. Vacation time often means visiting relatives in Miami and Colombia, with the occasional trip wherever affordable flights are available. These trips allow the family to reconnect with loved ones and immerse themselves in different cultures, strengthening their family bonds.
The Castillo family's story is about love, sacrifice, and community. Alvaro's unwavering commitment to his children and his efforts to build a supportive environment at Pixie's Pole Gym reflect the values that guide this close-knit family.
