Acupuncture for Your Pet

I have been studying Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for the past six years. Even though I plan to utilize my practice for humans, I learned that acupuncture can also be beneficial for our beloved pets.

This recently re-peaked my interest as my two beloved dogs had their annual check-up. As I voiced my concerns about starting preventive measures for hip issues common in German Sherpeds, my veterinarian reminded me that she does acupuncture for pets.

Acupuncture for pets has gained popularity as a holistic and effective therapeutic approach, offering a range of benefits for their well-being. This ancient Chinese practice involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body, stimulating energy pathways and promoting balance. One significant advantage of acupuncture for pets is its ability to alleviate pain and inflammation, making it particularly beneficial for animals dealing with musculoskeletal issues, arthritis, or recovering from surgery. Additionally, acupuncture has been shown to enhance circulation, boost the immune system, and alleviate stress or anxiety in pets. The non-invasive nature of acupuncture makes it a valuable alternative or complement to traditional veterinary treatments, often resulting in improved mobility, reduced pain, and overall enhanced quality of life for our cherished animal companions.

I am looking forward to my pet acupuncture session as much as I am looking forward to my sessions. Next time you take your pet to the vet, ask your veterinarian if they are a veterinarian acupuncturist!

Liz Hensel - Content Coordinator

Liz has been living in the Stafford area for the last two years. However, her ties are rooted to Virginia, as Virginia was her first duty station while she was on active duty with the Marine Corps. Her husband is still on active duty, and they hope to make Stafford their forever home with their two daughters and two rescue dogs.

While serving in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps reserves has allowed Liz to see all parts of the country and the world, there is truly no place like home. Working on this magazine gives Liz the opportunity to meet her neighbors and the local businesses and more importantly, she gets to showcase them to others.

Liz is also the founder of a nonprofit called Leave No Paws Behind USA. She led the campaign to have legislative change to include pet transportation fees included in military moves. With her leadership, the bill was passed in the FY23 National Defense Appropriation Act.

Liz is excited to continue to write the stories of the FXBG Neighbors
