Signs That It Is Time to Replace Your Windows
The signs telling you to replace your windows are obvious, right? Not always! There are several warning signs that can go unnoticed to the untrained eye.
If you are unsure whether you should replace your windows or not, look for and evaluate the following:
CHECK FOR DRAFTS
There are several ways to check whether your windows are drafty, but a quick and uncomplicated way to determine if your windows are leaking air is with a candle. Hold the lighted candle near your window’s edge. If the flame flickers, you have drafty windows. Drafty windows can sometimes be remedied with caulk, but if the frame of the window is rotten or damaged, it is time to consider replacing your windows.
CHECK THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE WINDOW
Does the window open and close smoothly? If the window is difficult to open or cannot remain open on its own, replacing it is a smart idea.
CHECK THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR WINDOW FRAMES
Wood rot in the frames of windows is a frequent problem. If the wood surrounding the window is soft and can be easily penetrated, it is a good sign that your window frame is rotten and needs replacing.
COLD/WARM SPOTS NEAR YOUR WINDOWS
On days of sufficient cold or warmth, check the inside frame of the window for cold or warm spots. This will indicate if your window is not sufficiently insulating your home and if you should consider replacing your windows.
CONDENSATION OR FROST ON YOUR WINDOWS
When your home’s windows are inadequately insulated, the temperature of the glass can too quickly change, causing condensation or frost to develop on your windows. This is a sign of inefficient windows that should be replaced with newer, more energy efficient models.
If your windows are suffering from one of these issues or more, contact a local window replacement company for a further inspection and estimate. Replacing your windows will prove to be a worthwhile investment for the value and comfort of your home.
