Recipe Corner: Tres Leches Cake

There are many ways to make Tres Leches Cake, translated to three milk cakes. This delicious dessert is perfect for any holiday potluck or fundraising event. You can easily make it in a big pan or mini pan depending on how you want to serve it.

Ingredients:

1 box of your choice of white cake mix (I use Betty Crocker)

1 can of 12 oz evaporated milk

1 can of 14 oz sweetened condensed milk

¼ cup of whole milk

1 tub of whipped cream

Ground Cinnamon

Fresh Strawberries, Sprinkles, your choice of garnish

Instructions:

  1. Follow the instructions of the cake mix to make and bake your cake.

  2. Once the cake has cooled grab a fork and poke holes all around the cake.

  3. Pour all three milk onto the cake, I start with the sweetened condensed milk, followed by the evaporated milk, and the whole milk last.

  4. Place the cake into the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 1 hour (I usually do it overnight), to really let the milk soak in.

  5. Once the cake has chilled and the milk has soaked, grab your whipped cream and spread it on the top of the cake.

  6. Garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, fresh strawberries, or other garnished of your choice.

Liz has been living in the Stafford area for the last two years. However, her ties are rooted to Virginia, as Virginia was her first duty station while she was on active duty with the Marine Corps. Her husband is still on active duty, and they hope to make Stafford their forever home with their two daughters and two rescue dogs.

While serving in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps reserves has allowed Liz to see all parts of the country and the world, there is truly no place like home. Working on this magazine gives Liz the opportunity to meet her neighbors and the local businesses and more importantly, she gets to showcase them to others.

Liz is also the founder of a nonprofit called Leave No Paws Behind USA. She led the campaign to have legislative change to include pet transportation fees included in military moves. With her leadership, the bill was passed in the FY23 National Defense Appropriation Act.
